Dr. José Manuel Villarreal has excelled at serving children in low socio-economic settings. He was the founding Principal (2006-2013) of a high performing magnet STEM school, which in 2015 received Blue Ribbon School status, in the Vista Unified School District (VUSD) . Most recently, Dr. Villarreal was the Senior Director of the San Diego County Office of Education, Juvenile Court and Community Schools, where his efforts led to improved student personal, social and academic outcomes by focusing on the whole child.
Mrs. Liu is an advocate and creator of equal access and innovative solutions for at-risk students. Her roles include teacher/mentor, Principal, and Assistant Director of Learning Support Services; and most recently Coordinator of State & Federal Programs for the San Diego County Office of Education. She has been commended for addressing thorny problems creatively, including formation of a school-wide multi-age/looping program, establishment of funding support and structure for a district wide AVID program, re-design of a gifted education program that increased identification of under served students, and the development of a district wide process to ensure that school plans and budgets addressed goals of college readiness for all student groups.
